Mary Cooper Obituary


Mary Magdalene Cooper, 92, went home to be with the Lord in the early morning hours on Thursday, March 18, 2021 at VITAS Inpatient Hospice in Philadelphia, PA.
Mary was born on January 8, 1929 to Sarah and Ben James, in Savannah, GA. She attended the Savannah Public School System. After the death of her parents, she moved to Philadelphia, PA with her only daughter, Gloria Glover. Upon arriving in Philadelphia, she became a talented seamstress, sewing and mending men’s garments.
She was a very special and caring Mother and Grandmother. She was quick-witted and very loving to all who knew her. She meant the world to her family who will keep her memory and legacy alive. As the oldest living matriarch of her family, she was devoted and will be remembered for her love and strength. She will be deeply missed by her family, friends and all who knew her. 
Mary was preceded in death by her parents; Sarah and Ben James, her siblings; Joseph Gadson, Sr., Sarah (affectionately known as Sister) Russell, William James, Samuel James, Frank James, Alfonzo James, Carrie Thomas and her Grandson, Carl Glover. She leaves to cherish her loving memory, her daughter, Gloria Glover, her grandchildren; Bernard Glover (Lucia) of Arizona, Vicky Glover-Gilliard (James), Victor Glover, Christopher Glover (Tina), Kevin Glover (Karen) of Virginia, Sheila Glover-Reese (Michael) of Virginia and Ronald Glover. Her great-grandchildren; Chynamarie Kingsley of Arizona, Anthony Glover (Nayeli) of Arizona, Kristina Schaad (Raymond) of Ohio, Ernest Michael Glover, Kevin Butler, Jr., Kysha Magdalene Butler-Dearry (Milton), Kia Butler, Vickie Watson (Jalil, Sr) of North Carolina, Kyle Glover (Teadra), Gloria Glover of  Virginia, Vincent Pierce, Zaire Glover, Deidre’ Glover, Christina Glover, Kevin Dwight Glover, Jr. of Florida, Marquis William Glover of Virginia, Karl Spenser Glover of Virginia, Rachel Nicole Wood of Virginia, Ashley Breanna Wood of Virginia, Ronneshea S. Glover, Ronald Wesley Glover, Jr., and E’Special Glover. She also leaves to cherish her memory, 37 great-great grandchildren, and 7 great-great-great grandchildren and Nephews; Joseph Gadson, Jr. (Patricia) of Georgia and Demond James of Texas.
“Her children arise up, and call her blessed;”... (Proverbs 31:28 (a)). And blessed she was to live a long life for 92 years.  
A viewing will be held from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. on March 24, 2021 followed by a Funeral Service at 11:00 a.m. at United House of Prayer For All People, 854 N. 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA 19123. Elder H. Oliver, Pastor will be officiating. 
Mary will be buried at Merion Memorial Park, 59 West Rock Hill Road, Bala Cynwyd, PA 19004. Flowers and condolences may be received at United House of Prayer For All People, 854 N. 12th Street, Philadelphia, PA 1912.
