Elzie Calhoun was born on 12/3/1942 in Ninety-Six, South Carolina to Johnny and Katherine Calhoun. He was the youngest of four children. Lou Ella and Melvin, his sister and brother as well as his parents proceeded him in death. He was known as Elzie to his immediate family. Dad to his children and Cal to his wife, Diana L Calhoun of whom he was married to for 46 years before her passing in 2019.
In his youth, he loved to run track, play basketball, and had a very special talent for drawing life-like art. He grew up in a little place called Ninety-Six, South Carolina. It is okay if you never heard of it! He worked for the United States Postal Service for 20 plus years and served his country in the US Army for five years. He was honorably discharged for his military service.
He could be heard talking a block away while on his postal route due to him being a friendly fellow. His three boys: Marquise, Jeremiah, and Raphael Calhoun have very fond memories of getting ice cream at Greenwood Dairy after church when we were very young. He also welcomed two girls into the home and adopted them named Christina Calhoun (Owens) plus “Shebe” Calhoun. He enjoyed being a father to his three boys and two girls. He also enjoyed being a husband to our mother Diana L Calhoun. He loved all his grandchildren and loved being a grandfather.
On date 4/16/2024 Elzie Calhoun passed on to his eternal reward with his Heavenly Father. His fond memories are left to his children Marquise Elzie Calhoun, Jeremiah Elzie Calhoun, Raphael Elzie Calhoun, Christina Calhoun (Owens), “Shebe” Calhoun, Daughters-in-laws Angel Calhoun, and Athena Calhoun; grandchildren Marquise Joyan Calhoun, Precious Grace Calhoun, Jahrae Calhoun, Raeianna Calhoun, Curtlynn (CeCe) Mack, Raylynn, Khaseem, Zaahir, Hamiah, and Tre,’ Brother Johnny “June” Calhoun; nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
Marquise E Calhoun said, “I learned from my Dad the value that a man is supposed to provide for his family and also the value of a dollar.”
