Obituary

Michael Leroy Adams, aged 72, passed away on October 4, 2024, in Savannah, Georgia. Born on January 14, 1952, Michael, affectionately known as "Sonny", was a man of many facets, revealing various aspects of his personality throughout his life. He was a perfectionist and relentlessly meticulous as a young boy acting as a mentor to his younger brother and protector for his family.

Most of his early years from 13 to 19 were devoted to scouting and camping where he achieved the rank of Life Scout, and his demonstrated leadership resulted in eventually becoming an assistant Scout Master.

Sonny attended Bryant Elementary and Tilden Junior High Schools, followed by Edward W. Bok Technical High School in Philadelphia PA. He furthered his education at the Community College of Philadelphia, and he successfully pledged and was a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity Inc.

He began his work career at the Bulletin Newspaper in Philadelphia PA and moved on to devote 35 years to the United States Postal Service. He advanced from a manual mail sorter clerk, a letter sorting machine operator to a Mail Processing and Distribution Supervisor in the Flat Sorter and Letter Automation areas to Operations Manager and finally retiring as Station Manager, of the Fox Chase Post Office in Philadelphia.

Sonny was enthusiastic about photography, model railroads and model racing cars, television and audio electronics, and women. He sang tenor with a local gospel group "Just Friends" and the Philadelphia Postal Employees Choir performing at events and venues throughout the Philadelphia area.

He was a member of Sharon Baptist Church, Sayers Memorial United Methodist Church in Philadelphia Pennsylvania and Overcoming By Faith Ministries in Savannah Georgia.

Sonny was both generous and caring but sometimes could be boisterous and inconsiderate.

Overall, he was loved by family and friends and will be deeply missed.

Sonny is survived by his two sons, Xavier Meckenzie Adams and Marcus Aurelius Adams; a daughter, Kimberly Sanders; siblings Patricia Adams, Antoinette Hauer, and Vincent Adams; and his former wife, Jo Ann Allen. He also leaves behind nieces, nephews, and numerous grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary Ella Adams, and James Leroy Adams.
