Anthony “Tony” Buchanan, beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Philadelphia, PA on July 3, 2026, at the age of 64.

Born on November 23, 1961, in Philadelphia, Tony’s life was defined by boundless affection, generosity, and a playful spirit that touched everyone he met. Growing up in the city he always called home, Tony attended Roosevelt Middle School and graduated from Simon Gratz High School, building deep and lasting friendships along the way.

Tony’s professional journey led him to Bookbinders Restaurant, where he approached his work with dedication and kindness, creating memories with colleagues and patrons alike. Yet, it was his vibrant personal life, full of laughter and meaningful connections, that truly set him apart.

For those who knew Tony, his nickname “Ninja” was both a nod to his lifelong love of kung fu movies and a marker of his dynamic personality. He never missed a chance to discuss the latest Bruce Lee or Batman film—Tony’s enthusiasm for stories of action and valor brought joy to every conversation. He had a knack for connecting with people anywhere, openheartedly diving into talks about comedy, action, and even biblical tales. Nobody who met Tony remained a stranger for long.

Tony's faith was a central part of his life. He was baptized at Deliverance Evangelistic Church, marking a powerful spiritual milestone. It was within those walls that he met Doreen Johnson, his first wife. Together, they had three cherished sons: Anthony Jr., LaVonge, and Wendell. The loss of Wendell brought sorrow, but also a testament to Tony’s strength and resilience as a father.

Life brought new love when Tony met Rosalind Washington. Their bond was immediate and deep—they became partners, soulmates, each other’s best friend and lifelong protector. He became a loving stepfather to Roshonda, Clifford, and Jamal, embracing them as his own. Tony and Rosalind were inseparable, spending their days side by side, their connection a source of happiness and comfort. Tony thought the world of Rosalind, and their time together was filled with affection and unwavering support.

Family was paramount to Tony. He is survived by his devoted wife Rosalind, beloved step-daughter Roshonda, and step-sons Jamal, Clifford, sons Anthony Jr., and LaVonge. His five sisters—Myra, Angela, Michelle, Natasha, and Roberta—and his brother Marvin carry memories of his laughter, warmth, and selflessness, as do countless friends whose lives he brightened. Tony was preceded in death by his dear son Wendell and by his parents, Elizabeth and Robert, to whom family meant everything.

His legacy will be remembered for his fun-loving nature, his willingness to go out of his way for others, and his ability to spark a smile with an unexpected question or a lighthearted joke. Tony’s greatest pride was his family and the meaningful life he built in Philadelphia, rooted in love, friendship, and faith.

Relatives and friends are invited to honor Tony’s life at a Memorial Service on July 29, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. at Francis Funeral Home, 5201 Whitby Ave, Philadelphia, PA.
